The role of an engine ECU in a MAN truck
The Bosch EDC MS5 engine control unit (ECU) for trucks is an essential component for ensuring optimum performance of heavy-duty diesel engines. As a key part of the electronic system, the ECU ensures the smooth operation of truck engines by optimizing fuel consumption and engine speed, or by storing operating information on engine speed and transmission. Connected to various vehicle components, it processes driving data using pressure, temperature and acceleration sensors, as well as the voltage of the various modules. It also forms part of the truck’s starting loop, enabling the engine to be started when the vehicle is awake.

However, even with a robust design, the ECU can be subject to breakdowns and faults over time, impacting on your truck’s performance. The EDCMS5 model, for example, is prone to injection pump control problems. This can have a number of effects, such as difficult or impossible starting, loss of power and torque, unstable idling and even engine stalling. Black or white smoke may appear, with increased fuel consumption.

How can I have it repaired? And how much does the repair cost?
Transport and delivery: You have the option of using our transport service to ship the faulty part from your company. Once your request has been validated by our team, you'll receive a shipping label to stick on the box in which you've packed your part. In this case, the cost of transporting your part is €34 (excl. VAT) return (€21 (excl. VAT) outward and €13 (excl. VAT) return). You can also choose to ship the part yourself, or hand-deliver it to our workshop in Couëron (44).
Repair rates: For repair services, we draw up customized estimates based on the characteristics of your part and the faults or problems encountered. Once the part has been received in our workshops, one of our specialized electronics technicians will draw up a breakdown diagnosis and a repair plan. You will receive your quotation in your customer area and by email. The service will be carried out once your quotation has been signed and paid for.
Warranty: Parts repaired in our workshops are guaranteed for 1 year from the date of repair. This means that if your equipment breaks down again or has a problem within the warranty period, we will pay for transport, any new spare parts and any other services required to keep it running smoothly.
Timescale: On average, we repair your equipment within 72 hours (from the time we receive it to the time it leaves our workshops). For a more precise estimate of your repair service, please consult the "Estimated service time" section. In the event of an emergency repair, we can offer you an "express lead time" option, so that your part can be taken care of in our workshops within 24 to 48 hours.
