- Consult the vehicle's fuse box diagram (manufacturer's manual or workshop base). It will help you check that the car radio is connected to the right fuse, especially if the car radio does not operate on +permanent.
- Observe and test the fuse connected to the car radio using a multimeter.
- Also check the auxiliary fuse, which should be rated at 15 A, while the car radio itself is usually protected by a 10 A or 7.5 A fuse, depending on the model.
- Don't forget to check the rear fuse built into the car radio, if fitted.
- A simple broken fuse (or a faulty contact in its housing) can be enough to render the car radio totally inactive. This is a common fault, easy to correct, but often overlooked in initial diagnostics.
