Ford Transit Mark 3 motorhome speedometer repair (1986 – 2000)
What is the purpose of a motorhome dashboard?
The dashboard on the Ford Transit motorhome (2014-2018) monitors speed and fuel consumption. It also allows you to check fuel and coolant levels.
What are the most common faults on a Ford Transit Mark 3 (1986 – 2000) motorhome speedometer?
When a vehicle’s speedometer malfunctions, a number of different situations can arise. There may be problems with the needles, such as errors in the speedometer or lap counter, or needles falling at random or remaining stationary. A fault can also affect the fuel level needle, causing the reserve indicator to light up constantly.
If the speedo doesn’t light up at all, there may also be an electronic or electrical fault. In this case, the instrument panel doesn’t activate at all, the warning lights don’t light up and the needles don’t move.
Occasionally, the speedometer has a lighting problem. In this case, the LEDs or lights on the speedo have failed. A backlight malfunction often means that the lights, dials or hands no longer light up properly. The fault may affect a single indicator, part of the dashboard or the entire speedo.
Occasionally, the meter may fail intermittently. Faults can occur when it’s hot, cold or wet, or they can occur only occasionally. This is the case when a light flashes for no reason, or when the meter goes out while driving. It could be a short-circuit, a faulty power supply or a false contact.
The meter plays a role in the complete ignition of the vehicle. So, if it encounters an electronic failure or a communication problem with another unit, starting may be compromised. If the car won’t start, the meter may be at fault.
If the display no longer lights up, goes out or malfunctions, then we can change this element on the meter. In some cases, the display flashes or remains completely black.
